Disney Continues Their Live-Action Remake of the Classics with the Releasing of the First Trailer for ‘Dumbo’
First there was ‘Alice in Wonderland’, then ‘Beauty in the Beast’, and now ‘Dumbo’?! Thank you Disney!
You’re in luck ‘Dumbo’ fans because the live-action remake is finally on its way. Set to be released March 29th, 2019, the first trailer has just dropped, and I couldn’t be more excited. Honestly, it looks fantastic, and maybe even a little eerie?
In the new trailer we see some familiar characters and some new. The ringmaster who was a minor character in the 1941 film, has now been turned into a major role and will be played by Danny Devito. While Michael Keaton will be playing the entrepreneur behind Dreamland, the mysterious and dark entertainment business that wants Dumbo. And we also see the introduction of a former circus star, Holt Farrier, played by Colin Farrell, as well as his two children who discover that Dumbo can fly.
And for fans of ‘Dumbo’ who maybe want something a little different than the original, the good news is the film is much more than just a remake. During CinemaCon 2018, Devito teased that, QUOTE “The [original] movie ends with Dumbo flying. This movie begins with the elephant flying, and takes the story even further”.
Of course from the trailer alone, we can tell it’s going to be a much different Dumbo than fans are used to. One of the most obvious signs of this is the twist on the original song “Baby Mine” from the 1941 Dumbo film. While originally sung as a lullaby by Dumbo’s mother, the singer AURORA, gives new life to the song making it become chilling and possibly hinting at the dark secrets that Dreamland has.
“Baby Mine” definitely has Tim Burton’s spin on it. Plus, Burton is nowhere near a newbie when it comes to live-action remakes. In 2005 he directed ‘Charlie in the Chocolate Factory’ and five years after that ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Burton’s ‘Dumbo’ is also just the first of many Disney live-action remakes to be hitting the big screen. Both ‘Aladdin’ and ‘The Lion King’ will be released in 2019, the latter which stars Beyonce as Nala. I mean seriously, could it get any better than Beyonce?! And that’s not even all! ‘Mulan’ is set to be released in 2020 as well.
